At a time when 65 % of all American marriages end in divorce, Ivan Thompson has uncovered the secret to marital success - eat more Mexican. Cowboy Del Amor follows the colorful, bizarre, hilarious, humorous, heart-warming and at times, politically incorrect travels of a Texas horse breeder turned matchmaker, who always gets his American man the perfect Mexican bride. All he has to do is get her past the Border Patrol.

Ivan's quest began years earlier, when he divorced his American wife after 17 years of marriage. He says they spoke the same language but could never understand each other. After the split, Ivan's life got lonelier. The women he met weren't interested in a funny, weathered cowboy with a $30,000 home. The Mexican hand on his ranch had an answer for him: a Mexican woman. So Ivan took out a "wife wanted" add in the Juarez LA OPINION newspaper. "Gringo looking for Mexican wife" got him replies from dozens of eligible women, including doctors, lawyers, accountants, and other educated, successful Mexican women. That's when the lightning bolt hit him and gave birth to an idea: forget finding a bride. Ivan found a business.

Ivan married a Mexican woman himself -- then divorced her when she turned the tables on him: A matchmaker who can’t manage his own love life. This self-proclaimed "Cowboy Cupid" might not look like he knows much about love, but his success rate proves that he just might. His clients include Rick, an ex-marine long-distance truck driver, and Lee, a hopeful 70-year-old Vietnam Veteran. They willingly pay $3,000 for a 600-mile bus ride into the heart of Mexico in search for the perfect wife. For Ivan, love knows no borders.

Cowboy del Amor is a comedy documentary about the cross-cultural road to true love. Filmmaker Michèle Ohayon (Academy Award Nominee 1997 for Colors Straight UP) brings an authentic and humorous look at life and love on both sides of the Mexican/US border. Her experienced eye follows this colorful Texan master of humor, as he attempts to lasso hungry hearts into successful marriage matches, and reminds them: "Love doesn't just stroll in and say Howdy!"
